Animation Showcase: Styles and Techniques

 

This International Fest of Cinema and Technology showcase presents animations with a variety of styles and techniques. Among the films include CG, puppet animation, experimental animation, traditional animation, animation geared towards children, and much more.

A two dimensional man teases a three dimensional dog.

 

Cubic Love Directed by Berter Orpak Germany

A short film about a man who takes a walk in the park and sees a pretty woman. He cleans himself off and takes off his glasses to impress her. With misty eyes hes searching for the woman and recognizes her red dress. But unfortunately it isn't the woman. Its a wanted bear who wears a red shirt and so begins the mistaken story.

Solo Duets Directed by Tobias Feltus

inspired by the works of rilke, and the paintings of balthus, a detailed puppet animation about a man suspended in the emptiness of his memory, visited by the figure of his younger self, an a confrontation to remind him of his lifes regret.

Olga - The unwritten child Directed by Anna Guldager Sweden

This is a poetic and philosophical story about a child's escape frm reality. It takes place during WW2. Olga, 7 years, does not want to leave mum and Finland. On the train she meets the boy Risto. After a bomb-raid the train continues towards Sweden leaving Olga in the snow.

 

Winter Directed by Luzius Schnellmann Switzerland

In this animation, a misplaced bumblebee is searching for its hideaway while overcoming many obstacles. After flying through a land of snow and rain it finally discovers its home.

 

Krijt Directed by Klaas Lageveen The Netherlands

A souvenir of a crime, unsure of why it is still here, goes searching for what it lost.

Vida Maria (Maria Life) by Marcio Ramos Evangelista, Brazil

Maria José, a 5 year old girl, has to leave her studies to work on the farm where she lives. While she works, she grows up, gets married, has children, gets older. In the end, the beginning of a new cycle that will reproduce her past on her daughter’s future.

A man is fishing on the river. A blue lady's show comes floating by, did it belong to adrea the berry picker that escaped from the tyranny of the blueberry king?

Dinner in Lisbon (Jantar em Lisboa) Directed by Andre Carrilho Portugal

Jaime Icaro works in on a weekly tv magazine. At the end of a dull working day, he receives a fax from Teresa his girlfriend breaking up their one year relationship. Jeamie leaves the office reading the fax and a few minutes later realizes Lisbon is not having its normal rush hour.

An east Timorese bride dwells on the full moon that shines bright as day every thousand years over timor loro sea. Her lover, the beileira giant, had succombed to the spell of a mighty python, in the forest of quiras. But their love is greater than death.
