Thirsty Planet- Part 1 Water for the Fields, Directed byTimur Diehn No matter where on Earth it is practiced, agriculture is the human activity that both consumes and wastes the most water. This episode exposes the disasters of agricultural irrigation, such as in the cotton farms of Uzbekistan, as well as highlighting innovative successes in water-efficient techniques and crops in California, India, and elsewhere. Numerous examples illustrate the destructive effects of deforestation and overgrazing, the difficulty of fighting erosion and reclaiming arable soil, and the urgency of the motto: more crop per drop.
